Lee So Yeon, born in Seoul of Yangcheon-gu, is a South Korean actress. She studied theatre performance at the Korea National University of Arts but had to drop out in her third year owing to academic ineligibility due to entertainment activities. She eventually graduated with a bachelor's degree in theatre and film from Hanyang University.
Lee made her debut appearance in the 2002 movie "Unborn But Forgotten" (aka "White Room"), followed shortly by the 2003 movie "Untold Scandal".
In June 2007, she was chosen to be "3rd Jecheon International Music & Film Festival Ambassador". In the same year, she won the "Best Actress in a Foreign Film Category" at the 16th Geumgye Baekhwajang Film Festival for "Bravo My Life".
In the following years, she won several awards, namely "Best New Actress" at the 2008 MBC Drama Awards for "My Life's Golden Age", "New Star" at the 2009 SBS Drama Awards for "Temptation of an Angel", "Female Excellence Award" at the 2010 MBC Drama Awards for "Dong Yi", and "Excellence Award, Actress in a Weekend Serial Drama" at the 2011 SBS Drama Awards for "My Love By My Side".
In 2013, she won two awards, namely the "Excellence Award for Female in Show Variety Category" at the MBC Entertainment Awards for "We Got Married", and "Excellence Award, Actress in a Daily Drama" at the KBS Drama Awards for "Ruby Ring".
In 2017, she won "Best Actress Award in Drama" at the 25th Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards for "Man Who Dies To Live".
It was reported that Lee dated director Song Il Gon for about three years after the filming of movie "Feathers in The Wind". In 2015, she married an IT venture entrepreneur who was two years younger than her, but they divorced in 2018.
